Amanda Jones, a single mother in her third year of Vancouver Island University’s creative writing program, financed the first two years of her education through student loans. She is one of 63 VIU students who are receiving funding and support this year through the Indigenous learning partnership.
“It’s life changing, because to have the added support, whether it’s financial or emotional support,” she said. “It just secures my future that much more, knowing that not only am I going to graduate, but I’m going to be encouraged in reaching my goals after graduation.”
The RHF is proud to partner with the Mastercard Foundation, Vancouver Island University, and Yukon College for this innovative learning partnership to remove barriers to postsecondary education for Indigenous youth.
