Canada is entering a period of rapid transformation, shaped by shifting global dynamics, the rise of artificial intelligence, growing pressures on communities, and an evolving climate reality. But it is also a moment of real opportunity, because Canada has always been at its best when we meet uncertainty with creativity, cooperation, and a commitment to one another.
Across every sector, decision-makers are being called to chart a bold course. In a world where misinformation is spreading faster than ever, democratic trust is being tested, and the global rules of engagement are being rewritten in real time, the values Canadians hold close matter more than ever.
This moment demands leadership that is clear-eyed and courageous, leadership that can rebuild trust, strengthen civil discourse, and bring people together across differences. It is a call to look beyond short-term pressures and help shape a stronger future for Canada, at home and on the world stage.
The 2026 GGCLC is built for this moment.
The GGCLC is more than a conference; it’s an immersive learning experience that sees participants divided into 16 study tour groups, with each group travelling to a different region of the country. There they’ll gain new insights into the strengths, challenges and opportunities facing their region.
This year’s conference will explore what it means to lead through complexity while staying grounded in the values that shape Canada, including inclusion, equity, and social cohesion. It is a call to leadership that is ambitious but practical, collaborative rather than isolated, and rooted in the belief that progress depends on people working across boundaries and perspectives.
Because sustainable prosperity is not only about economic growth. It is about creating conditions for people to thrive. That means improving affordability, unlocking productivity, fueling entrepreneurship, and creating better opportunities for workers across Canada, while ensuring progress is shared and communities are supported.

The leadership Canada needs
At the Rideau Hall Foundation (RHF), we see this theme reflected in the work we support across Canada, and in the kind of leadership this moment demands. Leadership rooted in service to community, that builds trust through consistency, listens deeply, and creates space for others to grow. As the RHF’s founder, the Right Honourable David Johnston, has said:
“A feature of leadership is recognizing your total dependence on the people around you and creating an environment where they can flourish.” – The Right Honourable David Johnston, 28th Governor General of Canada, Founder and Chair Emeritus of the Rideau Hall Foundation
From May 22 to June 5, 2026, emerging leaders from across Canada will examine the connection between leadership in their own communities and Canada’s place in the world, while engaging with prominent Canadian and international speakers, Indigenous leaders, and experts from every sector. Together, they will explore the forces shaping Canada’s future, and the role leaders can play in turning uncertainty into opportunity.
GGCLC 2026 will bring together leaders ready to meet this moment with courage, clarity, and purpose.
